Facebook Lead Automation

Laminin exposes a RESTful API that can be used to add leads to the Laminin platform by external lead sources such as a contact form on your company website.  This article will go into the detail of getting leads from Facebook into the Laminin platform.

Unfortunately Facebook does not provide the capability of interfacing directly with a RESTful API.  The Facebook methodology is different and in order for us to connect Laminin to Facebook we will use a third party platform called Zapier (https://zapier.com). Their free plan and grow-with-you model of pricing make them a great option for most businesses.

STEP 1:  To get started, create a Zapier account and once done go to the Zapier Dashboard.  From here, click on (1) Create Zap in the menu on the left.

STEP 2:  On the next page you will configure your Zap.  First you can (2) name your zap and (3) select your trigger.

STEP 3:  In our example we will name the Zap (4) Facebook Webhook and select (5) Facebook Lead Ads as the trigger.  For the Trigger Event, select (6) New Lead and click on (7) Continue.

STEP 4:  Next you will need to authenticate your Facebook account.  Zapier will open up a page where you need to fill in your Facebook credentials and assign the type of access that you want to grant to Zapier.  Once done your selected account will show in the (8) Facebook Lead Ads account box, click on (9) Continue.

STEP 5:  Next we will select the Facebook Page and Form that Zapier will connect to and that should already be configured within Facebook Lead Ads to receive client information.  In our example we will use the (10) Laminin page and the (11) Lead Generation form.  Note that your forms will differ depending on what you've configured within Facebook.  Once done, click on (12) Continue.

STEP 6:  Next Zapier will test your trigger.  Click Test Trigger and if successful you will see a notification that a lead was found.  Click (13) Continue.

STEP 7:  Now it's time to configure the Action, thus what Zapier needs to do with the Facebook lead.  In the Search Apps bar, type in (14) webhook and select (15) Webhooks by Zapier.

STEP 8:  Next select (16) POST as the Action Event and click on (17) Continue.

STEP 9:  On the next page you will need to configure fields with information obtained from Laminin.  Please contact support@lamin.in and we will provide you with the required information.  Please complete the page as follows:

  • (18) Enter the URL for the Laminin API (to be provided by Laminin Support).
  • (19) For the Payload Type, select json.
  • (20) The left Data field matches the Campaign Fields in Laminin (to be provided by Laminin Support).
  • (21) Click on the right Data field and select from the available Facebook Form fields.  This corresponds to the form selected in Step 5.  This is where the Facebook data fields are mapped to the Laminin data fields.
  • (22) Click on the + to add more fields.
  • (23) For Wrap Request in Array, select No.
  • (24) Leave the File blank.
  • (25) For Unflatten, select No.
  • (26) Leave the Basic Auth blank.
  • (27) The left Headers field must be X-Laminin-Client-ID.  The right Headers field must completed with the API Key (to be provided by Laminin Support).

Click on (28) Continue

STEP 10:  The last page will test the connection to Laminin and POST the test information from STEP 6 to the Laminin platform.  Click on (29) Test and Continue.

STEP 11: Lastly, ensure you receive a (30) Test was successful message and then turn the Zap on by switching the (31) On / Off button to On in the top right corner.
